Winter sonder Einde · Boek I (Afrikaans)

Die Vuur in die Donker

Twenty winters she has been the keel that keeps everyone else afloat — the lady of a Viking fjord-hall, her fire gone to embers under a marriage gone tender-but-cold. Then the world snows shut around a hall full of guests: a far-traveller who looks at her the way no one looks any more, a shield-maiden who wakes an old fire, and an ancient seeress who opens a door she did not know she carried. An adult historical saga in Afrikaans, in André P. Brink's hand with Kleinboer's frankness — sensual, honest, and uncensored, with the hand near the brake. ⚠ For adult readers. Book I of Winter sonder Einde.

A note on the original

For adult readers. Die Vuur in die Donker is a frank, sensual historical saga for grown-ups — written, by request, without the censorship its reader grew up under. It is honest about a mature woman's desire and is unflinching about the violence of the Viking age (the slave-trade and the raid are named, never glamorised). It is not explicit pornography: in the tradition of André P. Brink, the door closes at the threshold and the reader's own imagination finishes the scene. It is governed throughout by four firm limits — nothing involving minors, ever; intimacy only ever between consenting adults; coercion written only ever as harm, never as heat; and the threshold close. Mature themes throughout. Written in Afrikaans.
